You were right - MOL was using the sound. Now in mplayer I still get no sound but the movie plays and the following error message: alsa-init: requested format: 44100 Hz, 2 channels, Signed 16-bit (Big-Endian) alsa-init: 1 soundcard found, using: hw:0,0 alsa-init: unable to set periods: Invalid argument couldn't open/init audio device -> NOSOUND Audio: no sound!!! Xmms is back to pretending merrily to play mp3s and alsaplayer bombs with: alsaplayer: pcm.c:5655: snd_pcm_unlink_ptr: Assertion `0' failed. AlsaPlayer interrupted by signal 6 Ideas?
