Hi, Thanks to the help I was given via this list, I was able to compile all the most recent alsa packages (0.9.0rc3) correctly.
Now it seems I have a problem with the sound itself. When playing an mp3 in either mpg321 or XMMS, the sound quality is great at first, but after a few second (the exact time seems to vary) the sound kind of gets overlaid with static fuzz, and there is also a kind of echo effect. I was wondering if anyone has had this problem (I had the same effect with the 0.5 packages), and if so, how do I fix it? Alsamixer lists my sound card as "Intel 82801CA-ICH3" and chip as "SigmaTel STAC9700/83/84".
