The driver should work without any driver-specific entries in modules.conf, it will then pick the first free sound card number. You would need to modify modules.con if you wanted to change some module parameters, or if you want to use OSS emulation. An example and an explanation can be found in the installation instructions which can be reached from <http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-doc/>.
