I hope someone can help me: I have been using ALSA on several linux systems I have installed. However it seems that RH 7.3 has some built in problem with it and my newest system refuses to use it. I have a dual Athlon 1900+ on an A7M266-D with a CMI8738 card onboard and an M-Audio Delta 1010 running a new install of Gentoo linux. I have gotten everything to compile and have gotten envy24control to apparently work, yet I still get no sound. When I "modprobe soundcore" after building a 2.4.19 kernel with sound support as a module I get an audible AC spike. But then when I compile Alsaplayer and XMMS neither of them work. I have enabled and disabled the onboard sound, enabled and disabled OSS support in the kernel to no avail. I have done all of this using RH 7.3 but didn't get this far. I believe modules.conf is to blame but can't figure out how or why. There is something fundamental that I am missing?
