I finally got mic record working with my VIA 82c686B equipped mobo using
snd-via82xx. However, the record audio level is much lower then with a
SB 16 ISA in the same system.
Is there some kind of "boost setting"? I now there is on a SB PCI.
Setting it gives an xxdb increase.
I ran a test using sound studio, once using oss sb driver, and then using
alsa snd-via82xx with the mic level set at 85% for both The result was
that the SB 16 registered a level that was greater by over 10db than the
alsa driver.
I use sound primarily for amateur radio VoIP and connected nodes state
they have to really crank their output volume up for my audio when using
the alsa driver.
Anybody know?
