Last night I finally had the chance to do some updates on my favorite machine at
home. All rpms were built here and the CPU is an athlon 1800xp+:
a) Upgraded kernel from kernel-2.4.18-18.8.0 to kernel-2.4.18-19.8.0 (athlon)
b) Upgraded alsa-driver from alsa-driver-0.9.0-fr0rc6.1 to
alsa-driver-0.9.0-fr0rc6.2
(alsa utils is alsa-utils-0.9.0rc5-fr1)
Suddenly gnome-alsamixer starts dying whenever I play an mp3 on xmms and either
the current mp3 finishes playing and the next one starts OR I hit the stop
button.
So I though, "OK, rebuild the rpm (gnome-alsamixer-0.9.2-fr1). I did so and the
behavior was unchanged.
I went back to the previous alsa-driver and the problem goes away. Here is the
result of the strace of gnome-alsamixer when the problem is exhibited:
(this first line is repeated a few billion times ...)
> ** (gnome-alsamixer:10581): WARNING **: gam_toggle_init (). No idea what to do
here!
>
> ** (gnome-alsamixer:10581): WARNING **: gam_toggle_init (). No idea what to do
here!
> gnome-alsamixer: simple.c:1404: snd_mixer_selem_has_playback_volume: Assertion
`elem->type == SND_MIXER_ELEM_SIMPLE' failed.
And I get the crash box with the buttons to submit a bug report, etc.
(Here are the relevent alsa rpms I have installed...
alsa-lib-0.9.0-fr0rc6.1
alsa-utils-0.9.0-fr0rc6.1
alsa-kernel-0.9.0-fr0rc6.2_2.4.18_19.8.0
alsa-lib-devel-0.9.0-fr0rc6.1
alsa-driver-0.9.0-fr0rc6.2
alsa-xmms-0.9.7-fr1
)
Any suggestions on tracking this one down would be appreciated.
Thanks,
