How about a simple "ecasound -i alsa,default -o foo.wav" or
"arecord -t 10 -m -w foo.wav"?
Have you re-checked your mixer settings ("alsamixer", check capture
source and capture-level)?
What does "cat /proc/asound/card0/pcm0c/sub0/status" during recording - do
the numbers change?
