As far as I know there are two models of the SoundBlaster PCI 128.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I seem to remember one is based one the emu101 chipset and the other is based on the ensoniq 1370.

The kernel oss free module that work with my card is the es-1370, and with alsa: snd-ens1370, but of course that is with my card:
/sbin/lspci -vv:

00:0c.0 Multimedia audio controller: Ensoniq ES1370 [AudioPCI] (rev 01)
        Subsystem: Unknown device 4942:4c4c
Control: I/O+ Mem- BusMaster+ SpecCycle- MemWINV- VGASnoop- ParErr- Stepping- SERR- FastB2B-
        Status: Cap- 66Mhz- UDF- FastB2B- ParErr- DEVSEL=slow >TAbort- <TAbort+
<MAbort+ >SERR- <PERR-
        Latency: 64 (3000ns min, 32000ns max)
Interrupt: pin A routed to IRQ 11
        Region 0: I/O ports at c800 [size=64]

In my system the correct alsa module is snd-ens1370

snd-ens1370            12300   0
snd-rawmidi            18592   0 [snd-ens1370]
snd-seq-device          6284   0 [snd-rawmidi]
snd-pcm                82272   0 [snd-ens1370]
snd-timer              19592   0 [snd-pcm]
gameport                3412   0 [snd-ens1370]
snd-ak4531-codec        6068   0 [snd-ens1370]
snd                    43652   0 [snd-ens1370 snd-rawmidi snd-seq-device snd-pcm snd-timer snd-ak4531-codec]
soundcore               6500   2 [snd]
snd-page-alloc          8376   0 [snd-ens1370 snd-pcm]

Why would you think that? It's clearly listed in the matrix as using
ens1371. And, that IS the one which works...but not with the rc version
the OP was using. Oh, and I have tried to use the ens1370 with my
pci-128 card and it DOES NOT work.
