The es1688 driver doesn't seem to work at all.
I have this chip in a notebook. The kernel (oss/free) driver works, ALSA does
not :-(
ALSA driver:
modprobe snd-es1688
-> no such device
modprobe snd-es1688 port=0x220 irq=5 dma8=1
-> no such device
Kernel driver:
modprobe sb io=0x220 irq=5 dma=1 esstype=1688
-> works
I'm using ALSA 0.9.2 and it didn't work with 0.9rc-something either.

PS: I still have the problem that turning the pcm volume > 75% starts to
distort the sound more and more with my DMX XFire1024 (snd-cs46xx)
