I send this to the list, maybe someone else has a good idea :)
esssolo1 is an OSS module, it must be unloaded before you can
load ALSA. But your first problem is 'unresolved symbols' in snd.o .
What does 'depmod -ae' say? I have mandrake's 2.4.21-0.11mdk
kernel and have snd.o in /lib/modules/2.4.21-0.11mdk/kernel/sound/core/
And 'urpmf snd.o.gz' tells me:
kernel-2.4.21.0.13mdk:/lib/modules/2.4.21-0.13mdk/kernel/sound/core/snd.o.gz
(I don't have that kernel installed).
I still think the problem might be a conflict between the mandrake
supplied ALSA modules and the ones you compiled yourself.
Btw, what was the original problem with sound in Mandrake 9.1?
Good luck!
