I've tried everything to no avail. My Asus P4PE (Intel 845 w/ AD1980)
will not produce sound on my fully patched RedHat 9 system. Judging by
the number of postings about this same subject without resolution, I am
making the assumption that I am not alone.

I've tried to use the default sound - No Luck.
I've tried the alsa packages from FreshRPMs - No Luck.
And, most recently, I've tried to build the source downloaded straight
from alsa-project.org - No Luck.

The sound modules appear to load fine, but there is no sound. I've
tried plugging the speakers into the microphone jack and countless other
suggestions from various postings. No luck.

The same process that I am using for this board works fine on two other
systems that I have which use VIA chipsets.

Does anyone out there have this working? If so, please help the rest of
us.

Here is my /etc/modules.conf for the alsa stuff:
# Audio Driver (alsa)
alias char-major-116 snd
alias snd-card-0 snd-intel8x0
alias char-major-14 soundcore
alias sound-slot-0 snd-card-0
alias sound-service-0-0 snd-mixer-oss
alias sound-service-0-1 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-3 snd-pcm-oss
alias sound-service-0-8 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-12 snd-pcm-oss
post-install snd-card-0 /usr/sbin/alsactl restore >/dev/null 2>&1 || :
pre-remove snd-card-0 /usr/sbin/alsactl store >/dev/null 2>&1 || :
alias snd-card-1 off
alias snd-card-2 off
alias snd-card-3 off

Thanks,
Brian
