Hi

I'm pretty new to ALSA and music under linux, although I've been using
linux for a few years now...

I compiled kernel 2.6.0-test3 and got audio/midi working with the
onboard intel810 soundcard in my laptop and an Evolution USB keyboard.
But when I enabled the virtual midi device module all applications got
confused and cannot play through the soundcard. The virtual midi device
shows up as the first (number 0) device listed with aconnect -io, so I
thought that might be the reason, as I read somewhere that the soundcard
should be configured as the first device. Could this be the problem?

Also: since I compiled all the modules in the kernel I don't know where
to put configuration anymore. Under debian I believe it should have been
in /etc/modutils/alsa but changes made to this file doesn't seem to have
any effect. And if I do "/etc/init.d/alsa restart" I get som complaints
about modules not found, which makes sense since there arent any...
Where do I configure ALSA with everything compiled in? Would it be
better to make the sound stuff as modules instead? How do I restart ALSA
with the current configuration?

Thanks in advance!
