I have been trying to get a microphone/headphone combination to work with my CM8738 chipset (rev-10) (on the motherboard). OS is RH 9 with 2.4.20-8 kernel, with Alsa 0.9.6 installed.
The first Mic I tried to use (built-into the headphones) does not seem to work at all...
Another mic "QuickShot" gives a very faint recording, filled with static when I use 'arecord' and 'aplay'. I tried messing with things in 'gamix', but didn't seem to effect anything.
I tried using the standard kernel 2.4.21 cmpci driver on another similar machine, and the QuickShot Mic actually does a decent job of recording there...at least untill I bring up the gnome mixer. After that, recording doesn't work again for whatever reason.....
So, I'm looking for any suggestions for getting this working with either ALSA or regular drivers.... If someone can suggest a mic/headphones product that is known to work well, that would be useful too.
Thanks, Ben
