Hi, how are you?
I use Redhat9.
I installed ALSA driver for my 'via' on-board sound card.
The installation seemed to be o.k at the beginning. However, as I tried to execute the commands like 'modprobe snd-via82xx', I get the error message saying that

/lib/modules/2.4.20-8/kernel/sound/pci/snd-via82xx.o: init_module: No such device
Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including invalid IO or IRQ parameters.
You may find more information in syslog or the output from dmesg
/lib/modules/2.4.20-8/kernel/sound/pci/snd-via82xx.o: insmod /lib/modules/2.4.20-8/kernel/sound/pci/snd-via82xx.o failed
/lib/modules/2.4.20-8/kernel/sound/pci/snd-via82xx.o: insmod snd-via82xx failed

Now at the point, I used the command 'alsamixer'. Then I get the error message that

alsamixer: function snd_ctl_open failed for default: No such device

The funny thing is I can still use ALSA because whenever I use mplayer, and look at /proc/modules, I can see those ALSA drivers there.
Could anybody help me?
Lately, I have been trying to use a telephony software called "Speak Freely'. However, whenever I try to launch the program, I get the error message that

Error opening PCM device plughw:0,0
sfmike: unable to initialise audio.

       Unable to initialise audio.
sflaunch: New connection (return to exit)?

I thought this information might help to know why this whole thing is happenning.
Thank you, and have a good day.
