I have an odd situation where the OSS emulation is working but the Alsa interface isn't. I can run aumix but not alsamixer, play but not aplay. Alsamixer says
failed to open mixer #0/#0: No such file or directory
Aplay says
unable to obtain longname: Sound protocol is not compatible
This is perplexing because I've compiled alsa modules for my SB Live
card plenty of times before. The only change is the kernel version.
This is alsa 0.9.6 on Debian (Sarge) with a 2.4.21 kernel. I ran
configure with
--with-sequencer=yes --with-oss=yes --with-cards=emu10k1
--with-isapnp=no
Ran the snddevices script and so on. Everything seems to be there.
Any suggestions?
