Unfortunately, I am unable to help you at this time :(  However, if you
could let me know what options you pass the kernel modules and perhaps
how your alsa config file is setup, then maybe I could get my spdif-out
working (right now I have no /dev/snd/pcmC0D2p under devfs, Gentoo 1.4).

If I get it to show the device, then maybe I'll encounter the same
problem you have (I have the same chipset), and I might be able to help
out then.  :)

FYI, I've tried google, alsa website, gentoo-user ml, and alsa-user ml.
No luck so far.
