I'm not sure if I understand what you mean by "multichannel". I would define multichannel as a card that has more than two (stereo) input/output channels to use, so that you can send or receive signals with more than just the channels left and right in the stereo world. This kind of multichannel is not and to my knowledge never was common on Laptops, except maybe now with digital surround sound. > Must I use some software mixing daemon like jack or esd? My experience > with esd is that it doesnt work very well. Software mixing has nothing to do with multichannel. It is about multiple applications playing sound concurrently, on whichever amount of channels. You might want to take a look at the long dmix thread that happened here the last week. > I dont know what to expect of jack, but my experience with directsound > suggests that there might be some > annoying jitter like distortion on simple laptop audio chips. Jack will jitter as much as any other audio application. Jack does provide more and other things than mixing, though. > any suggestions? does the extigy have multi channel? or cant that be > expected on usb 1.1 bandwidths? You can get up to about 8 channels at 16bit/44.1 kHz sound over USB1. ciao -- Frank Barknecht _ ______footils.org__ ------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by: The SF.net Donation Program.
