[Alsa-user] Enabling digital output..

Hi List! I'd like to enable my sound card's digital output. I had a 
fortissimo II with cs4624 chip. I ran alsamixer and simply unmuted the 
digital out channel but I cannot pump up the volume. How can I do it? An 
'other question: do i have to enable external_amp option if I have 
connected the sound card to the hi-fi? Thanks and regards,
