Hi,

I installed the 2.6 kernel and I compiled as module the alsa drivers. I also
installed the alsa uitls and alsa libs, version 0.98. I found out that the
drivers that come with the kernel are pretty old, version 0.97.

How can I use the newest alsa drivers?

My soundcard is supported with the snd_intel8x0 module and I have to say that
with the current drivers it works fine. However, when I type dmesg I get this
message

ALSA sound/pci/ac97/ac97_codec.c:1739: AC'97 0:0 analog subsections not ready

I have an ASUS P4PE motherboard with an onboard soundcard. The specifications
are ADI1980 6-channel CODEC

When I was using the 2.4 kernel (OSS drivers), the dmesg will give me
informations about the number of channels that are activated, but with the
ALSA drivers I get only the message that I wrote above.

I want to use the ALSA drivers, because they support the soundcard (I do not
have to plug the speakers in the mic line), but I am afraid that the drivers
that come with the 2.6 kernel are old.
What is your opinion? If I use the new drivers will it help?
I saw also that a bug was fixed in the new drivers.
If I need to use the new drivers, could you give me some instructions on how
to do it?

Thank you in advance for your time,
Vasilis
