I have a Packard Bell EasyNote E3, running SuSE 9.0
YaST2 has detected the sound card can configured it for me.
Resulting /proc values are below/attached.
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/proc/asound> cat cards
0 [V8235 ]: VIA8233 - VIA 8235
VIA 8235 at 0xe100, irq 5
Attached
/proc/asound/card0/ac97#0
But it seems the card's clock is set to 48kHz, which means
that ALSA hw0 refuses to set CD rate 44.1kHz.
(Which means PortAudio tests fail.)
I can see a number of discussions about this kind of card in the
archive, but don't yet understand what I should set and why.
The YaST2 setup tool allows me (if I go for advanced option)
to set:
snd_ac97_clock (defaults to 48000)
snd_dxs_support (0=auto, 1=enable, 2=disable, 3=48k only)
snd_mpu_port
Presumably that gets written to a config file somewhere
which I could hunt down and change manually if necessary.
What is dxs support?
What are the advantages or otherwise of setting clock to 44100
vs 48000?
I would rather CD rate didn't have to be resampled, but what
uses 48kHz rate?
I want this to play music (CD, MP3 via xmms) and
possibly also playing DVDs.
Also for development of my speech synthesis work -
need some rate "about" 10kHz, with OSS I used CD/4,
but 48kHz/4 would do just as well.
