Hi, I just finished compiling the 2.6.1-mm2 kernel in order to get sound
and ethernet support for my nforce2 motherboard (shuttle an35n-ultra).
After reading everything I could find on the web and in the mailing list
archives I realized I had to use the snd_intel8x0 module, install
alsa-lib-1.0.1 and alsa-utils-1.0.1 and turn up the volumes with the
mixer, so I got the sound working well enough that I can hear the output
from mpg123 or aplay. But when the sound is loud, it sounds very
distorted, as if it is overdriving something in the soundcard.

Does anyone know how to solve this problem (special module options??) or
at least start debugging it? It seems like I'm so close to getting this
thing working that I shouldn't give up now.

lspci gives this info about the audio:

  Bus 0, device 6, function 0:
Multimedia audio controller: PCI device 10de:006a (nVidia
Corporation) (rev 161).
      IRQ 5.
Master Capable. No bursts. Min Gnt=2.Max Lat=5.
      I/O at 0xd400 [0xd4ff].
      I/O at 0xd800 [0xd87f].
      Non-prefetchable 32 bit memory at 0xed001000 [0xed001fff].

I can send any other information about the system if it would be helpful.

Thanks in advance,
-Paul
