Ogle is failing when it reaches my sound driver. I get the first
Interpol type warning screen, and then it stops and exits.
I am running 2.4.22 pretty standard kernel from a pretty standard
Slack 9.1 install. My sound works well, quite well, as a matter
of fact, compared to my old system on RedHat 8.0.
I've tried posting for help on the Ogle list, but it was limited
to trying what I have noted below. When all options crapped out,
my posts went unanswerd. And it's not like it's an emergency or
anything. I mean, I just wanna watch a DVD. I can always reboot
into my Win98SE partition. But, I have this smashing up-time going,
and I just hate like the dickens to toast it. Maybe you can relate.
Here is what's happening:
When in oglerc I have (standard setting after Ogle install from
tarball):

this is the output I get:

failed: Device or resource busy

When I change "default" to "iec958" I get this:
No accelerated IMDCT transform found

ERROR[ogle_audio]: Opening alsa pcm device 'iec958': Invalid argument

Changing it to "iec958:AES0=0x2,AES1=0x82,AES2=0x0,AES3=0x2" (per
Ogle FAQ) results in:

iec958:AES0=0x2,AES1=0x82,AES2=0x0,AES3=0x2 definition (id: iec958,

I have a VIA VT82C686B chipset (352 BGA). It is DirectSound AC97 Audio,
ACPI. I think it's a pretty common integrated soundcard chipset. So,
maybe someone out there knows what I'm doing wrong.
Then I was told to change "alsa" to "oss", thus in oglerc:

<device>
<driver>oss</driver>
<path>/dev/dsp</path>
<alsa>
<name>default</name>
</alsa>
</device>
Results after Ogle crashed:
ALSA lib pcm.c:1906:(snd_pcm_open_noupdate) Unknown PCM oss
ERROR[ogle_audio]: Opening alsa pcm device 'oss': No such file or
directory
FATAL[ogle_audio]: failed opening the alsa audio driver at oss
Then I was told to try this instead (swapping out "alsa" for "pcm"):
<audio>
<device>
<driver>alsa</driver>
<path>/dev/dsp</path>
<alsa>
<name>pcm</name>
</alsa>
Results after Ogle crashed:
ALSA lib pcm.c:1906:(snd_pcm_open_noupdate) Unknown PCM pcm
ERROR[ogle_audio]: Opening alsa pcm device 'pcm': No such file or
directory
FATAL[ogle_audio]: failed opening the alsa audio driver at pcm
I can send up my /etc/asound.state file if requested. This post is
long as is and I'd rather not bother everyone with something that
may not be totally useful. One quick note: I do _not_ have any lines
or sections in my asound.state that include "iec958." This seems to
me to be the issue. But, I'm basically ignorant of ALSA and sound
drivers, so I have no clue. Hence, my post.
