hi list! i got a little problem with my nforce onboard sound. i got everything to work (basically) but i cant control the secondary device with alsa mixer (meaning no volume control at all). my devices: aplay -l **** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices **** card 0: nForce2 [NVidia nForce2], device 0: Intel ICH [NVidia nForce2] Subdevices: 1/1 Subdevice #0: subdevice #0 card 0: nForce2 [NVidia nForce2], device 2: Intel ICH - IEC958 [NVidia nForce2 - IEC958] Subdevices: 1/1 Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
cat /proc/asound/devices 1: : sequencer 0: [0- 0]: ctl 18: [0- 2]: digital audio playback 25: [0- 1]: digital audio capture 16: [0- 0]: digital audio playback 24: [0- 0]: digital audio capture 33: : timer everything works fine using analog out, but not with spdif. if i switch to secondary playback device i cant use alsamixer anymore, no mather how i switch, i tried the .asoundrc from the alsa howto page (using dmix plugin) http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-doc/doc-php/template.php?company=Nvidia&card=nForce&chip=NM2360&module=intel8x0 , also tried pcm.default.device 2, both route all output to spdif, but the mixer keeps controlling the analog device. i even got OSS-emulation working by mapping device 2 to adsp and linking dsp to adsp (this works for xmms with oss-plugin and esound) but still no go with the mixer. anyone knows if its possible to control the secondary playback device using alsa mixer ? (there's some nice IEC958 checkbox in gnome-alsamixer that does nothing!?) i read the plugin howto also and played around with copy dmix and some others, but still mixer refuses to work with spdif any help is appreciated ------------------------------------------------------- The SF.Net email is sponsored by EclipseCon 2004 Premiere Conference on Open Tools Development and Integration See the breadth of Eclipse activity.
