I'm running Slackware 9.1 on a machine with a pretty much standard Realtek AC/97 onboard soundcard, and the problem is that the alsa-mixer doesn't save the settings. This is just very annoying.
When I installed the system I run 'alsamixer' as root, set the sliders and then run 'alsactl store' as root to save the settings, however Gnome 2.4 doesn't appear to care about that. Someone mentioned an app called 'amix' but 'which amix' didn't return any results. I have set the volume in gnome using the gnome-mixer in my non-priviliged user-account, but everytime I log into X I have to set it all over again.
Please, someone help me out with this one. Thanks in advance,
Ingvald Johansen
