Hello Again,

        YooHooo!

I just compiled and installed alsa 1.0.3.  'PCM Capture Volume' is now
responding and I can get acceptable levels with the microphone!

As an added bonus there is now 'Input Saturation' and more metering
though I must say I don't know how or where I can use them.
