Hi RickMark, a suggestion I got here from Clemens Ladisch fixed the error message only. It did not fix my sound problems. I've since gone back to my 2.4.20 kernel and alsa-0.9.2. Anyway, what Clemens suggested was to load the dummy sequencer, snd-seq-dummy, I beleive. That got rid of the error message, but it didn't make anything work any better.
Could you please post the solution ? I think I have exactly the same problem when compiling the 1.0.3 driver, with --with-cards=ice1724, against the 2.6.4 kernel :
WARNING: Error inserting snd-mpu401-uart (/lib/modules/2.6.3-4mdk/kernel/sound/drivers/mpu401/snd-mpu401-uart.ko.gz): Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)
WARNING: Error inserting snd-mpu401-uart (/lib/modules/2.6.3-4mdk/kernel/sound/drivers/mpu401/snd-mpu401-uart.ko.gz): Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)
FATAL: Error inserting snd-ice1724 (/lib/modules/2.6.3-4mdk/kernel/sound/pci/ice1712/snd-ice1724.ko.gz): Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)
FATAL: Error running install command for snd-ice1724
Thanks a lot.
Eric
I've since dropped my Intel8x0 on board sound and replaced it with a Sound Blaster Live Value. I still don't have sound. I'm hoping someone here will be able to help with the Sound Blaster. The Intel seems too problematic.
