Apparently, the appropriate hotplug script isn't calling when booting. Try to install the hotplug package of your distribution, or insert a call to the rc.hotplug script into rc.local or some other startup script.
Ive already installed hotplug and added the startup script to the "boot" runlevel, before the ALSA startup script to make sure. I must admit I don't understand too much of the hotplug script mechanics though.
