It doesn't work.
This is my /proc/asound/cards:
0 [CK8S           ]: NFORCE - NVidia CK8S
                     NVidia CK8S with ALC850 at 0xfebfb000, irq 18
1 [AudioPCI       ]: ENS1370 - Ensoniq AudioPCI
                     Ensoniq AudioPCI ENS1370 at 0xbc00, irq 20
2 [U0x46d0x8a2    ]: USB-Audio - USB Device 0x46d:0x8a2
USB Device 0x46d:0x8a2 at usb-0000:00:02.0-1, full speed

I tried with multiple xmms instances with alsa output plugin.
In the first xmms if I use default:CK8S the nvidia card plays. I open the second xmms with the same device the sound is mixed.
When I open the the third xmms and I set the device to default:AudioPCI the sound goes to the nvidia card. If i stop the first two xmms and do play with the third xmms the sound goes to the AudioPCI card.

In conclusion it works like my first asound.conf where the ipc_key was misconfigured. Perhaps it could be an alsa bug, or is not already implemented in the version I have.

I use alsa modules from debian kernel 2.6.15.2 and utilities from 1.0.10 debian packages.

Bye

But that configuration doesn't use only dmix. It uses dmix and dsnopp
together with asym and gives you two software mixed and fullduplex
cards.
By default is it configured in that way?

Yes, just use the "default" device. However it does not yet work with
USB devices.

How you can access the second card using the default device? How it's
called the second dmixed and dnooped device?

default:1 , if I'm not mistaken.
Or, default:<card_name> , where <card_name> is the name you'll find
in /proc/asound/cards.
