What exactly do you expect > to work that doesn't? I'm sorry. Let me restart. I have an IBM T41 that I'm hoping to setup with MythTV via a Plextor USB PVR/Tuner. I bring-up mythTV and can see TV. However, I cannot hear audio. Within the mythTV configuration, I have tried setting audio to ALSA:default /dev/dsp (on the chance I could hook into OSS emulation), and several other options. No matter what I do, I cannot get the PVR to output audio via mythTV. I imagine that either I'm not properly configured or that I don't know how to identify the device to mythTV's liking.
