I too have some problems with alsa on my Z60m Thinpad, similar to what
Jaroslaw Gorny.
When i boot my laptop, it sometimes hangs on attempting to load alsa.
It happens randomly, sometimes it starts normal, sound ok, everything perfect.
Sometimes it hangs on loading alsa modules, it just hangs on ::
loading snd-card-0.
by mistake i found out that i can skip this by hitting ctrl+print screen.
Then, i keep getting these messages in my syslog::

Also recently, volume was low, even when mixer settings were upto max.
This a great laptop i have, too bad about hardware support on Linux, i
cant use all its features properly. I also have some problems with
Xorg DRI.
