IIRC I read someplace that the Dell supplied SBLive cards needed a special driver. Looking at the options in a 'make xconfig' for the 2.6.18-rc7 kernel (yeah, I have spare blood most of the time), there is the Emu10K1 driver, and the Emu10k1X driver that is special for the Dell OEM cards. I'd assume that you would rmmod snd-emu10k1, then modprobe snd-emu10k1x to give that driver a try. And its possible the snd- prefix is new, so if that doesn't work, try it without the snd- prefix.
