You don't say for which kernel version you want the alsa-driver. I know at it
was an issue with the 2.6.19 kernel and the alsa-driver package (a search on
gentoo forum or bugzilla will show you the details). Maybe you can try a
2.6.20 or use the in kernel driver.

It is no need to install the alsa-driver package if the in kernel driver is
working.
