You mean with 'find /lib/modules -name snd\* -exec rm {} \;'?
That was just a brute-force method to get rid of any spurious sound
modules you might have installed in the kernel's module tree. If
you give that command _after reinstalling the linux-image, you're
deleting the modules you have just reinstalled.
When I said "purge" I meant the command 'dpkg --purge', or the
corresponing action in aptitude. When explaining what you do, it's
better to paste the actual things you typed. Commands speak louder
than words. Or at least clearer.
