If you distrust FLAC encoder/decoder, start checking them, but you do not need 
ALSA
and soundcard for that.

If you want to test quality of PCM stream playback, start capturing stream 
output,
probably with another card, but this is is independent of FLAC or any other 
compression
(lossless or lossy) format.
