Ok an update: I installed JACK and QJackCtl and I got the missing PCM
channels of the RME Multiface in there. Then I configured the .asoundrc and
generated two virtual alsa devices each having a stereo in and out from the
in and outs in JACK which I can pass to XWAX. There were no problems with
this but in the end I get no input signal in XWAX and if I try to do
something in QJackCtl (e.g. changing a connection) it gets grey and freezes
and I have to restart my computer to open QJackCtl again.

Any ideas?
Thank you all!

Martin

@Florian: Shure I could an RPM Box but I have the Multiface anyway and it
should be working for that cause it has even more in and outs and I think
the RPM Box would have the same issues as its just one interface wih
multiple in and outs.

@Michiel: also checking out for the JACKed version of XWAX, thanks!
