I now have OSS4 controlling my on-board sound, which means all the mic inputs work properly at last. It also means, if you will forgive the heresy, that the sound quality is much better. This really shocked me, to realise how poorly PulseAudio resamples. The main downside, beyond the initial one of having to get all my applications working properly, is that OSS4 won't suspend nicely. That said, I am going to keep using ALSA on my USB audio interface for pro-audio work, because I need Jack and Midi. |
