Hi there,
I'm running openSUSE 11.2 x86_64 on an Inspiron 1720. I'd like to record some
acoustic/electric instruments in audacity or ardour/rosegarden, but have not
been able to get any better than a noisy scratchy recording, where digital
noise is prevalent, and the clean input is barely there, despite putting all
volumes to max - via the line-in.
I have 2 options - I have a Tascam US-122L with its 24-bit 96kHz digital stereo
input, which I would prefer as an input - that is seen by system and registered
as an audio device but with no controls (I'm not sure how to use that). My
other option is to use the line-in on my Inspiron 1720.
OK, can somebody please help with some basic direction in troubleshooting?
Here are the basic infos...
Its a Dell Inspiron 1720, with inbuilt hda intel sound based on the STAC 9205
chip. I've never managed to get the line in working, ever, since I first
installed a much older openSUSE on this machine.
Until now I've done most of my audio work in Windows using the Tascam US-122L
(and the line-in, which is fine there so not faulty), but with software like
LMMS, audacity, ardour etc, I really would like to try a music project done
entirely with free and open software...
Kind regards,
Chris Wilkinson, Brisbane, Australia.
