Subject: Warwick adds fresh talent as Australia prepares for Olympics -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Media Release 3 October 2007 Warwick adds fresh talent as Australia prepares forOlympics One of Australias brightest youngsters is set to taketo the diamond against three of the 2008 Olympic medal contenders as theAustralian Open Womens team, Aussie Spirit, prepares for the China Cup. Clare Warwick, from ACT, will join the 18-member, Aussie Spirit team, to takeon hosts China, Canada and Chinese Taipei at the official Olympic softballvenue, the Fengtai Softball Field from 9 -14 October. Clare is a quality player who will add versatility to the team with herability to play several positions in both the infield and outfield, she has agreat work ethic and a tremendous attitude towards the game said FabianBarlow, Head Coach. The 20 year-old has recently returned from the USA after playing in theDivision 1 College level at the University of Hawaii. At the completion of the2007 college season Warwick was named in the second NFCA/LouisvilleAll-American team, a great achievement for a foreign player playing in the USACollege system. Clare can hit anywhere in the batting line-up and also runs very well.Its a great opportunity for Clare to play alongside some of our moreestablished players and learn from the best our country has to offer,added Barlow. This event along with the Japan Cup in November will provide players with vitalopportunities for successful selection into the Australian Olympic Softballteam. Three-time Olympians Melanie Roche and TanyaHarding have been re-selected, along with Natalie Ward(captain) and other members of the team including KellyHardie, Zara Mee, FelicityWitt, Tracey Mosley, DanicaHowlett, Natalie Titcume, JodieBowering, Sandra Allen, StaceyPorter, Kate Judd, Kylie CronkKerry Wyborn, Melinda Weaverand Belinda Wright. The final training sessions for the team will be held at the Redlands softballgrounds from 10-12am and 2-4pm on Friday before the team departs for Beijing.
