Lord’s fastball team welcomes “Miles” of talent to the lineup

OSHAWA, Ont. – Head coach of the Durham College women’s fastball
program Jim Nemish is pleased to announce that Whitby native
and womenÂ’s fastball veteran Kristine Miles has committed to
attend Durham College this fall.

Heading into the season, the expectations for the womenÂ’s fastball
team are high and the DC coaching staff is looking forward to
see what Miles can add to an already strong squad.

“As a coaching staff, we have known Kristine and followed her
fastball career for many years,” said Nemish. “I have had the
pleasure of coaching her in Midget for one year. She is a very
hard working individual and will give nothing less than 100 per
cent.”

Miles is a pitcher joining the Lords after four years at Alabama
Agricultural and Mechanical University, where she was awarded
an athletic scholarship and obtained her degree in Physical Education.
She received the scholar athlete award all four years at the
University and was on the SWAC all-academic team in 2008. In
the summer, she has played for a number of rep teams including
the Whitby Eagles and the Port Perry Angels. Through out her
entire softball career, Miles has pitched two perfect games.

“I feel that pitching this season should be the strongest that
it has ever been and with attending nationals this fall, that
is certainly something to look forward to,” said Nemish. “In
speaking with Kristine, she is looking forward and excited to
be coming to Durham this fall.”

Pitching coaches Mal Swift and Mallory Aldred should have plenty
of talent to work with as the one-two punch of Kayla MacLean
and Jana Hagan will be returning to the rotation this season.
All three pitchers are able to play a second position which adds
tremendous depth to the lineup.

Before attending university, Kristine attended Anderson C.V.I
in Whitby where she was a member of the softball team and the
2006 MVP.

It will be a big season for the program as the Lords are set
to host the 2010 OCAA championship which is scheduled to take
place from October 15-16 and travel to Saskatchewan for the 2010
Canadian Intercollegiate Women's Fastpitch National Championship.
