July 2, 2012 Port Huron, MI Motor City Shamrocks Get Win at Huron Wellness Tourney In a tough field that included Ashland Stock Pack, Huron Wellness, St. Thomas, Wellington, Milverton, Tailgators Sports Bar, and Hickson Reds, the Motor City Shamrocks got three big wins on Sunday to bring home the championship. Doug Gillis picked up the day’s first win by downing St. Thomas 3-1 and Tyler Kelly got the semi-final victory 3-2 over Wellington. In the final, Chris Heinlein was lights out in a 1 hit, 12 K performance over host team Huron Wellness. In a great battle that was reminiscent of years gone by, the game was scoreless until a two out rally in the top of the 7th saw Joe Jacobs and Blaise Zimmer get singles and Brent Kowitz come thru with a clutch single to plate Jacobs for the game’s only run. In the bottom half of the inning Heinlein had his no-hit bid broken up on a one out single but retired the next two to seal the deal. It was a great team effort on the part of the Shamrocks both at the plate and in the field. Heinlein also stood out offensively throughout the day including a long home run in the Wellington game to start the scoring. The Shamrocks will travel around Lake Michigan to take part in the Boys of Summer tourney in Denmark, WI, this coming weekend. Then it’s back home at Frankenmuth, MI, on to the ASA Major in Ashland and back home as co-host of the ISC World Fastball Tourney in Midland to round out the season.
