Three New Zealand world champions have been named in world softball's hall of fame. Aucklanders Debbie Mygind, Dean Rice and Eddie Kohlhase were inducted at the recent World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) softball division congress in Oklahoma City. Mygind pitched New Zealand to a gold medal at the 1982 world championships in Taiwan and was named in the 1982 world team. She was also part of New Zealand's bronze medal squad at the 1986 world championships in Auckland. The Aucklander was a member of the Cal State Fullerton division one team in United States college softball. She was New Zealand female player of the year in 1985 and was ranked by longserving New Zealand coach Ed Dolejs as New Zealand's greatest female pitcher in he prime. Mygind also attended a junior world championship and two women's world championships as an assistant coach. She was Softball New Zealand's pitching director from 2005 to 2012. Kohlhase, now a national coaching adviser with High Performance Sport New Zealand, was the first and so far only New Zealander to win world championship titles as a player and a coach. He won a gold medal at he 1984 world championships and silver medals at the 1988 and 1992 tournaments. Kohlhase was the New Zealand Black Sox's assistant coach when they won gold medals at the 2000 and 2004 world championships. He took over as head coach in 2005 and guided the team to a silver medal in 2009 and a gold medal in his Auckland hometown in 2013. The former New Zealand Customs senior manager was inducted into the New Zealand Softball hall of fame in 2004 and was New Zealand softballer of the year in 2013 after coaching the Black Sox to a record sixth world crown Rice, a specialist third baseman, won gold medals with the Black Sox at he 1996 and 2000 world championships and silver in 1992. He was part of New Zealand's world champion Junior Black Sox team in 1985, was New Zealand softballer of the year in 2006 and is also in the New Zealand Softball hall of fame. Ad Feedback Rice also attended two women's world championships and two Olympic qualifiers as both assistant coach and head coach. He was New Zealand's coach of the year in the 2009-10 season. Thirty-seven New Zealand players, coaches, administrators and umpires are now in the International Softball Federation Hall of Fame. The Czech Republic capital won the bid to stage the 2019 tournament after the 2017 event is held in Whitehorse, Canada. The 2018 women's world championships will be held in Chiba, Japan with the 2018 junior men's (under-19) world tournament in Prince Albert, Saskatoon in Canada.
