Renowned Islamic Scholar's house raided
The house of an international renowned Islamic scholar, who has authored
many books in Urdu and Arabic, was raided Wednesday in connection with the
detention of a 16 year-old boy under anti-terror legislation, The Muslim News
has exclusively learnt.
The boy, who is the Maulanas grandson, was arrested as he was leaving his
school, in Dewsbury, where he had been sitting GCSE exams. The house of his
grandfather, which has a huge library, was raided at the same time as two other
houses, his parents home where he lives and a second property owned by his
parents.
A family friend, who visited the Maulana just after the raid, told The Muslim
News that the family is "shaken" from the experience. They were said to be
"upset" as they cannot understand why the boy, who was detained at Bidwell
Police Station, was arrested. They have not been told the reason for the
arrest.
The BBC linked the 16 year olds arrest with the questioning of a 21-year-old
man from Bradford who was detained at Manchester Airport. A police spokeswoman
was quoted saying that the operation was "a continuation of last night's
operation at Manchester Airport."
The BBC also cited security sources saying the arrests were linked to the
Canadian inquiry but there was no confirmation of this.
