Thanks! looks like I didn't have cairo-5c, was able to build a
package. I can now get past that step!
I'm now having trouble with some java libraries (freetts and jfree.*)
I suspect this might have something to do with multiple java versions.
autogen.sh gives me this:
  Java
    freetts.....................: /usr/share/java
    jfreechart..................: /usr/share/java
    jcommon.....................: /usr/share/java
    JVM include.................: /usr/lib/jvm/java-8-openjdk/include
    AltosDroid maps API key.....: no
I'll have to look into this more after work...
