Title: RE: implementing a changer

1. read docs/TAPE.CHANGERS
2. find/configure/install the /dev entry for the changer. Might be /dev/sg0, /dev/ch0, or anything else, depending on your OS.

3. find/hack/write a changer program that can control your changer. Make sure you can load and unload tapes on command. Your OS might already have one, or you might use mtx. There are others, search the archives if you're stuck.

4. find/hack/write a changer glue script that accepts commands from AMANDA, issues the correct command to your changer control program, and returns results that AMANDA understands.

It is important to do these steps in order, as they build on each other. Doing them in reverse order takes an extra week. (Been there, done that.)

Good Luck!

Subject: implementing a changer

We are changing from multiple DLT drives to an Overland Express 10 tape
changer.  Been looking at the FAQ's and such but any hints would be
appreciated.

We have the unit cabled up and have verified it can read and write (the
easy stuff!).

Thanks,
George Kelbley, UNM CS Dept.
