Since you're running the development (2.5.0), a.k.a. bleeding edge,
version of Amanda, the docs are probably way, way, out of date.  Time to
learn how to read source code :-).

The first place I'd look, however, is /tmp/amanda/amandad*debug on
the client.  It might have more details about the failure.

Also, what do you have in .amandahosts?

As far as I know, all Amanda versions beyond 2.4.0 are compatible with
each other.  However, 2.5.0 has a totally new security framework and
there is at least the potential for problems.

It will be shown in the various /tmp/amanda/*debug files.  Start with
amandad*debug (as I asked above).

No.  Feel free to look up in the source code the 10,000+ potential errors
Amanda can generate, many of which are just echos of what some system
support library told it, come up with concise yet absolutely correct
descriptions for what they mean and how to fix the problem and post the
results :-).
