My guess is the estimates are taking longer than Amanda is willing
to wait. Take a look at the first and last lines of sendsize*debug in
/tmp/amanda on the client, calculate the amount of time it took, then
look at the etimeout variable in the amanda(8) man page.
Note that getting an incremental estimate almost always takes longer
than getting an estimate for a full dump because of the extra decision
making involved.
