Silly question -- did you run amlabel on these tapes? You have to do
that before you can use Amanda.

That's perfectly normal. The "advance" command tells the changer to
unload the current tape (if loaded) and set up for the next slot, but
not actually load it. However the answer back to Amanda must have a
device name in the second field, so it passes back "/dev/null".
