As Christoph Scheeder said, you've made a basic (mis)assumption about
Amanda that it will append to a tape from run to run. That is not
currently supported.
In addition to the suggestions from Christoph, you could also have a
large enough holding disk on the tape server and accumulate the images
there, then dump them to tape "once in a while". This is discussed on
the mailing list frequently and there are FAQ items about it.
One disadvantage is that all your backups are then at the whim of the
holding disk going bad, so keep that in mind.
