What version of Amanda? Where did you get it and how did you build it?
The server does not use amandad except when it treating itself as a
client, so I doubt it being the server is explicitly an issue.
Can you attach a debugger to one of the amandad's and get a stack
traceback?
What's in /tmp/amanda/amandad*debug?
