  /home/amanda/configs       #or whatever -> the backup configs 
  /home/amanda/logs
  /home/amanda/gnutar-lists
  /home/amanda/index         # indexes
  /home/amanda/curinfo       # all that info  
  /home/amanda/tapelists
  

  # nothing wrong with those, you could even place 'em in /usr/sbin
  /usr/local/sbin
  /usr/local/libexec
